Learning Ministries

"Teach them to obey all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:20a

The words of Jesus, the teachings of the prophets and apostles, and stories of God's people have revealed God's heart and hope. The Holy Spirit inspires us through Scripture to become more Christ-like in our thoughts, feelings and actions.

Children's Education

At 9:00 on Sunday mornings, there is a Sunday School class for K-5th graders and a class for adults. At 10:00 on Sundays there is age-specific Sunday School offered in the upper building. Children from age 3 to high school creatively learn and apply the Scripture reading heard in worship that same day. The seven faith practices of an active Christian are also encouraged: study, serve, worship, pray, encourage, give and invite.  Senior high students meet in the basement of the parsonage.

Adult Education

At 10:00 on Sundays, there are many education opportunities for adults. Classes fall into four categories within the "WALK" of faith: Welcome Home, Active Faith, Life Together, and Kingdom Walk.  Refer to the bulletin inserts or look at the learning board in the foyer of the main building for current offerings.

Mid-week Bible studies are offered through the women's circles and other small groups.  All small group offerings are listed on the Support page.  Contact a pastor to arrange for baptismal or communion instruction.

Library

Visit the library (next to the Social Hall) for a wonderful selection of  contemporary and classic books for children and adults..

Cradle Roll

Vacation Bible School

Children are invited to come each morning for a week to a themed Bible event.

Splash! Mondays

Mondays are a special learning day at First as we celebrate our inclusion in God's kingdom through our baptism.  Splash Mondays begin after school (2:30pm) with the Christian Center (CC) open for kids to come and play and the library open for homework.  High School kids and some adults are present to help younger ones if needed.  At 4:00, 3-9th graders can make a joyful noise in the Joyful Ringers bell choir, and the CC and library remain open.  At 5:00, 3-9th graders make a joyful noise with instrument and song in the Joyful Singers group in the fireside room.  At 6:00, parents, other adults, and kids join together for a meal, and at 6:30 we continue with learning opportunities for all ages. 7-9th graders stay in the CC for Head to the Heart (H2H) - our confirmation program.  H2H incubates faith in young people and their families through song, games, learning Luther's catechism, small groups, and developing relationships with key adults. Younger kids, high school kids, and adults, meet in the upper building for learning and fellowship.
